The Essence / Energy Debate With Taylor Marshall

From Cantuar.blogspot.com

Gravatar You're conflating two issues that need not be conflated.

The energy/essence distinction is an issue that is related but not necessarily the same as hesychasm.

Hesychasm has just become a buzzword when it needn't be. Its just ascesis, not unlike what we see in the works of the Latin St. John Cassian. Nothing is necessarily wrong with it.

The problem we in the west have is the whole Energy/essence distintiion part of it all, which has marked become a greek character of this form of religious practice.

Not sure what to make of E/E, except i just follow the Catholic church. Everything any other argument esp by the Orthodox about energies and so called distinctions, is just more pretext to remain in schism.

Gravatar Taylor,

I think the desire to reconcile Aquinas and Palamas is following the directives and actions of John Paul II, who wanted Catholics to do everything we can to unite with our Eastern brothers and sisters. I think this is a noble effort. Obviously, the Church cannot betray her doctrines, but at the same time there is often room to acknowledge that Eastern theologians have insights that Western theologians do not (and obviously, the reverse is true). Attempts to reconcile East and West are valuable efforts, as they show us what is truly reconcilable and what is not (I have a tendency to think more is reconcilable than we might think). JPII understood this and this is what he meant by breathing with both lungs.

I admire St. Thomas greatly, but he is not the only theologian we can look to for insights into the vast mysteries of our faith. No one theologian or school ever is capable of doing so. The Eastern view of the Transfiguration, for example, can do much to lead us into a deeper understanding of this great event.

As a side note: Eastern Catholic Churches celebrate the Sunday of St. Gregory Palamas every 2nd Sunday of Lent and Rome has not tried to stop this. If Palamas and his teaching is truly antithetical to Catholic teaching, I would think that they would have not allowed such a celebration to continue.

Russian President shows reporters example of “united future world currency”

In a highly symbolic moment at the G8 summit in Italy today, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev unveiled to reporters a coin representing a “united future world currency”.

“We are discussing both the use of other national currencies, including the ruble, as a reserve currency, as well as supranational currencies,” the Russian leader said at a news conference.

However, those who have downplayed the formulation of a world currency by dismissing it as merely a progression of SDR’s (Special Drawing Rights) and not something that would physically be used by citizens in a system of world government, were contradicted when Medvedev clearly outlined that the new currency would be “used for payment” by citizens as a “united future world currency”.

“This is a symbol of our unity and our desire to settle such issues jointly,” Medvedev said.

Israeli councilor faces probe for saying all Arabs must 'disappear'

[For those idiots in the prisonplanet forums calling me a Nazi and a fag. Hartman is only saying what the Talmud says. Just think if a Gentile said this (which is just as evil, of course) - or consider how the media twisted Ahmadinejad's statement about pushing the Zionist regime into the sea. -Jay]

By Eli Ashkenazi, Haaretz Correspondent

The State Prosecution on Sunday instructed the police to investigate Upper Nazareth City Councilor Ze'ev Hartman on suspicion of incitement to racism.

The move comes after a complaint was filed in April against Hartman, who called for the city's Arabs to "disappear," in an Independence Day greeting to local residents.

Councilors had been asked record personal greetings for Israel's 61st Independence Day to be aired over the holiday.

When the camera reached Hartman, he stated his wish for "all the Arabs to disappear." The cameraman, reportedly stunned by the statement, asked Hartman if he was being serious, to which he replied "absolutely serious."

Talk Show Hosts May Be Accomplices Under Hate Bill

Robert Stark

Examiner.com

The Hate Crimes Prevention Act which has passed the House of Representatives by an overwhelming margin is now facing hearings in the Senate. There are already similar hate crime laws in place, however, this bill imposes much stronger federal enforcement, which is a clear violation of the Tenth Amendment. It grants greater power to federal prosecutors to prosecute hate crime laws by prosecuting those who have been found innocent by local or state courts. The current bill will extend special privileges to gays and transgender individuals that are currently only granted to ethnic and religious minorities. The most dangerous part of the Bill which is a direct assault against the First Amendment is that it allows for the prosecution as accomplices in a hate crime for talk show pundits that the person who commits the alleged crime claims to influence their actions.

Here is the essential text:

Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce [radio, TV, internet] any communication, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person, using electronic means to support severe, repeated, and hostile behavior, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both. (HR 1966, SEC 3, Sec. 881a)

Banksters Love Cap and Trade

James Corbett

Corbett Report

carbon credit = money for banksters

The sweeping new bill which just passed the House last Friday, the Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, is ostensibly about climate change, but it is in fact a bill of staggering economic ramifications that is going to accelerate the takeover of the economy by the well-placed financiers who have already plundered the Treasury and the Fed of $12+ trillion and counting. It was rushed through the House in the tradition of such nightmarish legislation as the Patriot Act and the banker bailout of last October: hundreds of pages were added to it at the last minute and it was humanly impossible for anyone to have read it before they voted on it. This, of course, is exactly what Obama promised his administration would never allow to happen, and for good reason; bills passed in this manner are always the result of fear and panic and inevitably results in legislation that would never be passed upon sober second thought.

In this case, the rush to pass this new bill was an attempt to stop any scrutiny of a plan that is going to utterly transform the American economy, further centralize control of citizens' lives in the hands of unaccountable federal bureaucrats and complete the transfer of the American economy from Main Street to Wall Street. And all of this in the name of fighting a threat which itself is a demonstrable fraud. In short, the banksters and bureaucrats are sharpening their knives, preparing to butcher what's left of the carcass of the United States, and a good portion of the public are not only willing to allow it but are actually clamoring for it.

Duke University Pedophile Would Benefit From Hate Bill

By: Ted Pike

My parents were pioneer Christian, conservative leaders and broadcasters. In the late fifties after the aborted 1956 Hungarian Revolution, they met a number of passionately anti-communist Hungarian exiles. These refugees related how in 1918 Jewish Bolshevik Bela Kun, after overthrowing the Hungarian government, imposed homosexuality and its values on all levels of Hungarian society, down to kindergarten. Kun's goal was to break Christian, anti-communist resistance. He wanted to remake Hungary's youth into mindless fodder for socialism and revolution. After all, Lenin (whose mother was Jewish) said, "A revolutionary is a youth devoid of morals."

Today, Jewish activists of the Anti-Defamation League continue the work of their spiritual and political ancestor, Kun; they forcefeed society and the youngest children with pro-homosexuality. Three monstrous ADL hate bills (including recently introduced ENDA, The Employment Non-Discrimination Act, HR 3017) are moving forward in Congress. (See, New ADL Hate Bills Attack America ) ADL's legislation gives it the same behind-the-scenes federal power to corrupt America that Kun wielded over Hungary.

In Senate Judiciary hearings last week, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder boldly testified that the federal hate bill, S. 909 will not protect all citizens of differing races, religions and genders from violent hate crimes, as it claims to do.   Whom did Holder say it was designed to truly protect?   Homosexuals.  This includes homosexual pedophiles.

Should Linking Be Illegal?

guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 1 July 2009

Those who wish to keep the internet free and open had best dust off their legal arguments. One of America's most influential conservative judges, Richard Posner, has proposed a ban on linking to online content without permission. The idea, he said in a blog post last week, is to prevent aggregators and bloggers from linking to newspaper websites without paying:

Expanding copyright law to bar online access to copyrighted materials without the copyright holder's consent, or to bar linking to or paraphrasing copyrighted materials without the copyright holder's consent, might be necessary to keep free riding on content financed by online newspapers from so impairing the incentive to create costly news-gathering operations that news services like Reuters and the Associated Press would become the only professional, nongovernmental sources of news and opinion.

Posner's notion set off an eruption from the likes of Jeff Jarvis, Matt Welch and Erick Schonfeld, among others. And they are right to be furious. Not only would Posner stop online media dead in their tracks, but he would also overturn long-established rules of fair use, which, among others things, allow for the reproduction of short excerpts of copyrighted material for the purposes of commentary, parody and the like – precisely what bloggers and aggregators do all the time.

And Posner, who sits on the seventh circuit court of appeals in Chicago, has a way of getting his way. A brilliant, provocative thinker and a frighteningly prolific writer, he was described in a 2001 New Yorker profile as "the most mercilessly seditious legal theorist of his generation". And if, at 70, Posner and his generation are not quite so influential as they once were, he is still a formidable presence on the legal scene.

Facebook Deletes/Bans Me: Update - Allowed Back on, Warned of Excessive Behavior

By: Jay Dyer Update 7/8/09: FB has reviewed my case and allowed me back on barring any "excessive behavior" - that is, criticism of Zionism and debating that fact, I presume. FB's terms say they are not liable to tell specifically why you were deleted.

First, I knew years ago that Facebook was an intelligence creation. Mark Zuckerberg received CIA money - it's mainstream news. And, I knew it was a matter of time. In a few weeks, due to the popularity of Nicenetruth, my friend's list had risen to 550+ from 300 or so.  Prominent individuals became readers via social networking. So, no, I was not surprised when facebook deleted me. Facebook, of course, holds the rights to ban whomsoever it wills, but ironically, all is allowed unless one stumbles too close to truth. You can be gay, Satanic, etc., promote all forms of blasphemy - but you cannot criticize Zionism. The only thing, apparently, facebook bans is posts critical of Zionism. The deletion came as a result (I suspect) of several Neo-con scumbags I know reporting me as "malicious" and hateful because - no joke - I posted this video of Zionist/Jewish hatred for Christ [!], as well as several links from Rense.com:

The Decree of Pope St. Gelasius - The Liturgical Milieu and Protestant Bankruptcy

Gospel_procession By: Jay Dyer

Protestants are generally clueless when it comes to the canon of Scripture. Even the best of them act as if the Bible dropped out of heaven into their academic circles, as God, of course, needs their rigorous scientific exegesis. But what's the real problem with this? The problem is that the Protestants have taken  the Bible out of it's proper context - that of the Liturgy. And, for all you Federal Visionists, the Church already has apostolic liturgies - we don't need you inventing and fabricating your own.  But at least the FV guys are moving in the right direction.

As I've stated many times in debates and discussions, the formation of the canon, whether new or old Testament, cannot be separated from the context that gave those books meaning - public liturgy. The only way we know the authorship of the texts is from Apostolic Tradition, as I've demonstrated many times, and the milieu of that Tradition was the public readings at the local liturgy. Scholars across various denominations have known this for years. This growth in the knowledge of God via liturgy and sacraments is called "mystagogy."  Eastern Orthodox theologian, Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, explains:

"Strictly speaking, there never was a Bible in the Orthodox Church, at least not as we commonly think of the Bible as a single volume book we can hold in our hand. Since the beginning of the Church, from the start of our liturgical tradition, there has never been a single book in an Orthodox church we could point to as the Bible. Instead, the various Booksof the Bible are found scattered throughout several service books located either on the Holy Altar itself, or at the chanter's stand. The Gospels (or their pericopes) are complied into a single volume — usually bound in precious metal and richly decorated — placed on the Holy Altar." citation
